An extra large Faden quartz crystal cluster, 203mm by 132mm and a full 2kg, carrying the characteristic white thread through several of its crystal points.

Why is a piece of faden quartz this size genuinely uncommon? Because the very process that creates the thread also makes the material inherently difficult to extract intact. Faden quartz grows attached to opposing rock walls, bridging a fissure that keeps widening, and every time that fissure moves, the crystal is torn apart and must heal itself before growth continues. That cycle makes the material structurally more fragile than ordinary quartz, and larger clusters have simply had more opportunities along the way to be lost to a break that never healed. Only an experienced miner can safely extract a specimen like this. Faden quartz is traditionally regarded as a stone of connection, believed to strengthen bonds between people and align scattered energy.

A closer look

The thread itself is trapped gas and fluid along each healed fracture line, visible as a cloudy white seam running through the clearer quartz body. A cluster of this scale, with multiple crystal points each carrying their own thread, represents an unusually long and eventful growth history within a single specimen.

Living with your Faden quartz

Quartz is hard and water safe, so a gentle wipe with a damp cloth and a dry buff keeps it looking its best, though it is worth supporting the whole piece rather than lifting from a single point, since old healed fractures can be a hidden weak spot.
