Why is phantom quartz genuinely uncommon rather than simply another named quartz variety? It requires a very specific sequence of events during formation, growth, then a pause long enough for mineral dust to settle, then a resumption of growth that seals that layer inside without disturbing it. Miss any part of that sequence, and you get either plain clear quartz or a crystal with no clean phantom outline at all. A cluster of this scale, at over a kilogram, needed that precise interruption to repeat successfully across multiple points within the same specimen. Green phantom quartz is traditionally linked to the heart chakra, associated with growth, renewal, and moving past emotional stagnation.

A closer look

The chlorite responsible for the green colour settled across the crystal's faces during its growth pause, later grown over and permanently sealed inside as conditions changed and crystallization resumed. Without that interruption, this would simply be clear quartz, the phantom is entirely a product of the pause itself.
