What separates "very high grade" from ordinary rainbow quartz? Mostly the quartz itself rather than the rainbow. The rainbow effect depends on natural internal fractures, but a genuinely high grade sphere pairs that with quartz that stays otherwise glass clear around those fractures, free of the milky cloudiness or additional unwanted inclusions that lower grade rough often carries. That combination, clean surrounding clarity plus a well placed fracture, is what these six pieces were specifically selected for. A closer look

Each sphere's rainbow comes from natural fracturing within the crystal, formed through stress or minor impact long after the quartz itself finished growing, entirely distinct from the artificially heat-shocked crackle quartz sold more widely and more cheaply under similar names. Because the fracture and the surrounding clarity are both matters of natural chance, no two spheres in this selection show quite the same balance of colour and transparency.

Living with your rainbow quartz sphere
