A large tangerine hematoid quartz cluster from Morocco, an impressive 230mm wide and 3.175kg, glowing in warm orange-red tones throughout from natural hematite inclusions worked through the crystal structure.

Is tangerine quartz the same thing as Himalayan hematoid quartz? Related in character but not in origin, and worth being clear about which is which. Both get their warm colour from hematite, iron oxide, bonding within the quartz as it grows, but this specimen comes from Morocco, a well known and entirely separate source for hematite-included quartz, rather than the Himalayan range. The colouring and general associations are similar across localities, grounding, vitality, and a connection to the root chakra, but the geography is genuinely different and worth stating accurately.

A closer look

Hematite bonds within growing quartz as iron rich fluid circulates through the same fissures feeding the crystal's silica, staining it from a pale tangerine through to a deeper red depending on concentration. A cluster of this scale, 3.175kg and 230mm across, required a large, stable cavity to develop in and represents a genuinely substantial specimen within this material. This piece is completely natural, with no dye or treatment involved.
