Why might two Lemurian crystals of essentially the same size be priced differently? With natural, one of a kind mineral specimens, size alone never tells the whole story. Clarity, the sharpness and consistency of the striations, the overall symmetry of the point, and simply how well a piece photographs and displays all factor into how a specimen is graded, even among crystals that share near-identical measurements. This piece was set aside specifically for the quality of its striation pattern. A closer look

"Lemurian" is a trade name for striated quartz, first applied to crystals found loose in the sandy soil of the Serra do Cabral region of Minas Gerais in the late 1990s. The striations are growth lines, formed as the crystal alternated between faster and slower phases of formation while crystallizing from silica rich fluid underground, and a large, cleanly striated master crystal like this one required a stable growing environment over a considerable stretch of geological time.

Living with your Lemurian Seed Quartz
