Most unakite on the market appears as small tumbled stones or modest decor pieces, and sourcing a single block of solid unakite large enough to carve a 13kg sculpture from, without piecing together smaller sections, is genuinely rare. The vast majority of unakite carvings available commercially are a fraction of this size.

A closer look

Unakite is a natural blend of green epidote and pink feldspar, formed through the alteration of granite, and its mottled two-tone colouring is entirely a product of that mineral mixture rather than any treatment. The mother-and-baby turtle design carries genuine symbolic weight in carving traditions, the turtle long associated with protection, longevity, and carrying one's home wherever one goes, with the two smaller turtles adding a note of family continuity to that older symbolism.
