The crystal is a genuine Herkimer County, New York stone, not the imported double terminated quartz frequently sold under the same name. Its geometry goes back roughly 500 million years, to a shallow sea whose carbonate sediments hardened into the Little Falls dolostone. Acidic groundwater dissolved cavities into that rock, silica rich fluid seeped in, and quartz crystallized inside those sealed pockets slowly and nearly free floating, which is exactly why it grew a point at each end rather than fusing to its host at one. Wearing one means wearing something no lapidary ever touched.
