Herkimer Diamond 22mm — Large Double Terminated NY Quartz

This is the largest of the single crystal grades, a Herkimer Diamond reaching up to 22mm tall and 2.5g, with a bold, confident outline you can appreciate without leaning in. The transparency is excellent and the natural faceting is crisp, so it behaves like a cut gem while being entirely the work of geology. Both ends carry full terminations, the double terminated form that gives Herkimers their unusual symmetry.

Does a bigger Herkimer do more? Not in any literal sense, and it would be dishonest to claim so. What a larger crystal genuinely offers is presence, both visual and physical. It anchors a shelf, it sits with real weight in the palm, and it is far easier to work with in a grid where you want a clear centre. Herkimers are traditionally associated with clarity, attunement, and amplification, connected to the crown and third eye chakras, and a specimen of this size is the one most people end up choosing to keep rather than carry.

A closer look

Herkimers are quartz, named diamonds for their brilliance rather than their chemistry, and named Herkimer for the county in upstate New York where they were first dug in quantity. Their shape traces back roughly 500 million years, to a shallow sea that deposited the carbonate sediments now known as the Little Falls dolostone. Acidic groundwater dissolved cavities into that rock, silica rich fluid crept in, and quartz grew inside those pockets slowly and almost free floating. Because nothing anchored it, a full termination formed at both ends rather than the single point ordinary quartz develops where it joins its host.

Living with your Herkimer Diamond

Give it somewhere it can be seen, since a crystal this clear rewards good light. A desk, a bookshelf, or the centre of a grid all suit it, and it is substantial enough to feel grounding when held through a longer meditation.
