This twin cluster carries a matched pair of crystals joined at a natural seam, both with sharp double terminations and the water clear brilliance that only genuine Herkimer material shows. It measures 25mm long by 22mm wide and 11mm thick, and weighs 8g, which puts it firmly in collector territory rather than pocket territory.

Why are twin clusters so much scarcer than single points? It comes down to how fragile the growing conditions were. A single crystal only needs one stable pocket. A twin needs two crystals nucleating close enough to fuse while the chemistry, temperature and pressure stay steady long enough for both to finish. Most pockets never manage it. This piece is genuinely from Herkimer County, New York, the Middleville area, and that distinction matters commercially. A great deal of double terminated quartz from Pakistan and China is marketed as Herkimer, which is not accurate, so provenance is one of the few real quality signals in this market. The geology behind it starts roughly 500 million years ago, when a shallow sea laid down the sediments that became the Little Falls dolostone. Acidic groundwater hollowed out cavities, silica rich fluid seeped in, and quartz crystallized inside those sealed pockets nearly free floating. Untethered at both ends, it grew complete points at each.
