Himalayan Quartz Double Terminated Points — Raw Natural

A selection of small Himalayan Quartz double terminated points, natural and raw, ranging from 42mm to 48mm and 8g to 19g, including one genuinely twinned specimen. As with all raw material collected by hand at altitude, a few pieces carry small natural chips at the tips, disclosed honestly rather than hidden in the photography.

Why are double terminated points specifically valued over single pointed crystals? A crystal with a point at each end is generally read as working in two directions at once, able to both draw energy in and send it out, rather than channelling purely one way. Himalayan Quartz carries its own added weight to that reputation, given the demanding conditions under which it is collected, hand gathered at elevations often above 5,000 metres and carried down by yak since no vehicle or powered tool operates at that altitude.

A closer look

These crystals formed within pegmatite pockets deep in the Himalayan range, shaped by the ongoing tectonic collision between the Indian and Eurasian plates that continues to build these mountains today. A double terminated habit occurs when a crystal grows without ever attaching firmly to its host rock at one end, leaving both ends free to develop a complete termination, in contrast to the single point of a crystal fused to its matrix.

Living with your Himalayan Quartz
