Those golden threads are rutile, a titanium mineral that grows in fine needles inside a rock cavity before quartz fills in around it and locks the needles permanently in place. It's an unusual case where inclusions raise a stone's value rather than lowering it, since the threads are the whole attraction. Look closely and you may notice needles crossing at sharp angles, following the underlying hexagonal structure of the quartz around them. The smoky body takes its colour from trace aluminium altered by natural radiation over immense time.
