Rainbow Fluorite Point — Polished Top, Raw Etched Base

Why pair a polished point with a deliberately unfinished base rather than polishing the whole piece? It's a genuine design choice with real logic behind it. Fluorite's colour banding forms in layers as the mineral crystallizes, and leaving part of the piece in its raw state preserves the surface texture that recorded that growth, while polishing the point brings out the colour saturation and internal clarity most clearly. The combination shows both faces of the same stone, geological history and finished colour, in one piece. Rainbow fluorite is sometimes called the Genius Stone, traditionally associated with mental clarity, focus, and organising scattered thoughts.

A closer look

Fluorite's banded colouring comes from trace impurities and structural variations laid down as the mineral crystallized in successive layers, most often in hydrothermal veins. Each colour zone represents a distinct stage of that growth.

Living with your rainbow fluorite

Fluorite is comparatively soft, around 4 on the Mohs scale, and can scratch or chip if knocked against harder stones, so it's worth handling gently and storing it apart from tougher minerals. A soft, dry cloth is the safest way to keep both the polished and raw sections looking their best.
