Larimar Necklace — Sterling Silver Dominican Stone

This Larimar necklace sets a genuine drop-shaped stone in sterling silver, the pale, cloudy blue instantly recognisable as Larimar, a stone found in only one place on earth. Its soft sky-and-sea colouring, often threaded with white veining, has made it one of the most distinctive gemstones to come out of the Caribbean.

So what is Larimar known for? It is prized as a calming and soothing stone, believed to ease stress, anxiety, and negative emotions. About this piece

Larimar is a rare blue variety of the mineral pectolite, and remarkably, it has only ever been found in one small mountain region near Barahona, in the Dominican Republic. It gets its sky-blue colour from copper within the stone, and it was only identified in 1974, when a local Dominican and a Peace Corps volunteer found pieces washed up along the shore. The stone takes its name from a blend of Larissa, the discoverer's daughter, and mar, the Spanish word for sea, and it is sometimes nicknamed the Atlantis Stone for its watery, oceanic colouring. This pendant measures 18 x 25mm, and as with any genuine gemstone, small natural variations in colour and pattern are part of what makes each one unique.

Wearing your Larimar
