This Herkimer Diamond is a cluster rather than a single point, and that is what makes it worth a second look. The main crystal is water clear with a bright, glassy sparkle, and two smaller double terminated crystals have grown naturally against its side, so facets run in several directions at once. It stands 21mm tall and weighs a featherlight 3g, reading more like a jewel than a rock. Herkimers are long associated with mental clarity and amplification, and a multi point specimen carries that character generously.
So what is a Herkimer Diamond actually good for? Most people keep one close when their head feels cluttered. It is often called the stone of attunement, linked to the crown and third eye chakras, and it has a long reputation as an amplifier that lends its brightness to whatever crystal sits beside it. That reputation grows out of the double termination itself, since a crystal pointed at both ends is understood to receive as well as send.
A closer look
The question that comes up more than any other is whether a Herkimer Diamond is a real diamond, and the honest answer is no. It is quartz, named for its diamond like brilliance and for Herkimer County, New York, where these crystals were first pulled out in quantity in the late 1700s. How it grew is the genuinely interesting part. Its host rock, the Little Falls dolostone, formed roughly 500 million years ago beneath a shallow sea. Acidic groundwater later ate cavities into that stone, silica rich fluid seeped in, and quartz crystallized inside those pockets so slowly, and with so little contact with the walls, that it grew points at both ends. Nothing here has been cut or polished. Every facet you can see arrived that way.

Living with your Herkimer Diamond
A piece this size is happiest somewhere you will actually pick it up, so a desk, a bedside table, or the centre of a crystal grid where its outward facing points can do their work. Many people hold it during meditation, or set it beside a quieter stone to lift it. Quartz is hard and unbothered by water, so a rinse and a soft cloth is all the care it needs, though the secondary crystals join at a natural seam, so handle it gently and keep it clear of harder surfaces.
Please note: crystals are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Keep small pieces away from young children.
