Lapis Lucky Cat — Maneki Neko Prosperity Carving

This little Lapis Lazuli beckoning cat, known in Japan as a Maneki Neko, is carved at a compact 50mm, small enough for a desk or shelf yet full of the deep, natural blue lapis is loved for. The beckoning cat is one of the most recognisable good-luck figures in Japanese tradition, its raised paw said to wave prosperity toward its owner.

So what does the lapis add beyond the symbolism? It carries a long tie to the throat chakra, believed to release stress and bring harmony and tranquility to wherever it sits. It is also linked to the third eye, thought to support clearer thinking, which pairs neatly with a figure meant to invite good fortune. The raised paw is traditionally read as an invitation, welcoming prosperity and good visitors into wherever the cat is placed.

About this piece

Genuine lapis lazuli is a metamorphic rock, primarily the deep-blue mineral lazurite along with natural flecks of pyrite and calcite, and the finest material has traditionally come from Afghanistan's Sar-e-Sang mine. A carving this small still takes real care to shape by hand, and slight natural variations in colour are part of what makes each cat individual.

Displaying your carving
